Reserve Officers

The Josephine Police Department is currently accepting applications for reserve officers.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be a TCOLE Certified Peace Officer
• Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of hire
• Must be a graduate of an accredited high school or have an equivalency certificate with at least 12 hours of college credit or have an honorable discharge from the armed forces after 24 months of active duty service
• Must have a valid Texas driver’s license at the date of hire
• Must be a citizen of the United States by birth or naturalization
• Must be able to read, write and speak the English language
• Must be of good moral character
• Must have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings including an extensive background investigation, a polygraph, psychological exam, physician’s physical and drug screen
• Must pass oral interviews
• Shall not be prohibited from carrying a firearm or possessing ammunition
• Shall not have engaged in, received deferred adjudication or pre-trial diversion for, or have been convicted of conduct that constitutes a Class B Misdemeanor under Penal Code or equivalent under federal law, to include the Uniform Code of Military Justice or any conduct that may be unsuitable for employment

Salary

• The City of Josephine Police Department Pay Schedule has a ranged salary of $73,500 – $86,781 annually.

Public Information Request

Please read this entire section before submitting a request for a police report. The City of Josephine does not accept verbal records requests under the Freedom of Information Act/ Public Information Act.

Please provide as much information as possible in your request to expedite processing, such as:

• JPD Incident Number (sometimes referred to as a case number or offense report number)
• Name(s) and DOB
• Driver’s license and/or SSN of the parties involved
• Date/location (address) of the incident and type of incident
• Specify “public information report” and include your postal mailing address

Please be aware that a criminal offense report, and associated items such as videos, photos, etc. are not considered public information and will not be released unless the case was closed by conviction (someone was arrested, convicted and received jail/prison time and/or deferred adjudication and/or a fine). The only portion that can be released in most cases is the public information portion and suspect information if a suspect(s) was arrested and charged. The public information portion contains: a summary of the crime; the complainant’s name and address; date, time and location of the incident; the responding officer’s name(s); and the incident number. This is generally all the information required by your insurance company if you need the report for a claim.

NOTE: If the case was not closed by conviction, and you submit an open records request for the entire report (or if you do not specify “public information report” in your request), your request will be forwarded to the Texas Attorney General’s Office for a ruling as to whether or not we can release the full report, a process that takes approximately 60 business days.

Any request for Body Cam video will need to go through the Police Department directly as footage needs to met requirements.

The Josephine Police Department is proactive in its tracking of registered sex offenders and maintains accurate, up-to-date information on all offenders who reside within the city limits.

It is the policy of this agency that any person who has a reportable conviction or adjudication for a registrable offense occurring on or after September 1, 1970, and who is either incarcerated or under juvenile or adult community supervision, parole, or any other mandatory supervision as of September 1, 1997, must register with the Josephine Police Department if he/she resides in the City of Josephine for more than 7 days.

• Texas Sex Offender Registry: Pursuant to Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Art. 62.005, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) establishes this website as the official Internet public access to the DPS sex offender registration computerized central database.
• OffenderWatch: OffenderWatch is a web site not associated with the City of Josephine that manages sex offender registrations and community notifications at both the state and local level.

The Josephine Police Department is committed to assisting victims of crime by providing support, education, information and referrals as they regain control of their lives; advocating safety, healing, justice and restitution; and increasing awareness about violent crime victimization and its impact on our lives and the City of Josephine.

Outdoor Warning Sirens

The City of Josephine’s outdoor warning siren system consists of four sirens placed strategically within the city. Sirens are activated simultaneously to provide a general alert for the entire community. The outdoor warning sirens can be activated by either the Josephine Police or Josephine Volunteer Fire Department.

The outdoor warning siren system uses certain tones to alert residents to the imminent approach of severe weather (including a tornado warning, destructive winds in excess of 70 mph or reported hail of 1.25″ in diameter or greater) and other emergencies requiring immediate notification. Radio and television as well as public address systems mounted on fire and police vehicles, may also be used to provide information to our citizens, as needed.

Siren Testing

The City of Josephine tests the outdoor warning siren system on the first Wednesday of every month. These audible tests are meant to ensure the sirens are working properly and to help prepare for any severe weather that may threaten the city.

When testing, the outdoor warning sirens will sound on days when skies are overcast and gray but not threatening. However, when severe weather is in the forecast, sirens will not be activated unless there is an actual emergency.

Action

If you should hear the warning sirens, go inside and seek shelter immediately. Turn on a radio or television and listen carefully to instructions. WBAP Radio 820 AM is the designated Emergency Alert System (EAS) station for the DFW area.

Stay indoors until the danger passes.
